2 Ormes was an agent of the Bell Telephone Company, the association that held Alexander Graham Bell's telephone patents and the predecessor of AT&T. Southern Bell was one of a number of regional operating companies, eventually owned by AT&T, that were responsible for local and regional telecommunications; long distance communications were handled by AT&T.Google Scholar
