Published online by Cambridge University Press:  28 July 2009

Extract

The Ombudsman Amendment Act, 1997, gives die Office of die Ombudsman in Zimbabwe important new powers. In particular it is now empowered to investigate alleged violations of the Declaration of Rights in the Constitution by, amongst others, members of the Defence Forces, Police Force or the Prison Service.
