The editors would like to apologize to Professor Monica Wilson of the University of Cape Town for the misprint which occurred in the spelling of her surname in vol. XIV. No. 2, p. 331.

The article by Claude Meillassoux, ‘Etat et conditions des esclaves à Gumbu (Mali) au XIXe siècle’, which appeared in Journal, Vol. XIV, No. 3, 429–52, should have been accompanied by a footnote to the effect that it is to form part of a forthcoming collection of seventeen essays on African slavery which is due to be published in Paris in 1974. The Editors greatly regret this omission, and the embarrassment which it has caused to Dr Meillassoux.
