Les activités chirurgicales du CICR

Les activités chirurgicales du Comité international de la Croix-Rouge s'inscrivent dans le cadre général de son mandat qui consiste à protéger et assister les victimes des conflits armés.

Les blessés de guerre ne représentent donc qu'une partie des victimes dont s'occupe le CICR.

Le rôle premier du CICR en faveur des blessés de guerre n'est pas de les soigner, car cette responsabilité est avant tout celle des gouvernements inpliqués dans les conflits et par conséquent des services de santé des armées. Ce rôle est avant tout de s'assurer que les belligérants connaissent et respectent les Conventions de Genève, qu'ils soignent donc les blessés ennemis et qu'ils accordent au personnel de santé et aux installations sanitaires la protection qui leur est due.
