General Assembly Resolution 36/171 was adopted on December 16, 1981, by a vote of 75 in favor to 21 against (Australia, Austria, Belgium, Canada, Costa Rica, Denmark, Finland, Federal Republic of Germany, Iceland, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, U.K., U.S.), with 43 abstentions.
[Operative paragraph 3 of the resolution requests the Secretary-General to report to the General Assembly. The report was issued as U.N. General Assembly Document A/36/855 of January 5, 1982. The notes verbale transmitted in that report appear at I.L.M. page 443.
[The U.S. Court of Appeals in Eain v. Wilkes appears at I.L.M. page 342.
