[In accordance with the Special Agreements of February 2, 1967, between the Governments of Denmark and the Federal Republic of Germany and the Federal Republic of Germany and the Netherlands [8 International Legal Materials 343 (1969)], the respective governments agreed to “delimit the continental shelf in the North Sea as between their countries by agreement in pursuance of the decision requested from the International Court of Justice”. The International Court of Justice delivered its Judgment on February 20, 1969 [8 International Legal Materials 340 (1969)]. After extended tripartite negotiations, three agreements on the delimitation of the continental shelf in the North Sea were signed in Copenhagen on January 28, 1971: a protocol between the Federal Republic of Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, a treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and Denmark, and a treaty between the Federal Republic of Germany and the Netherlands. As of May 17, 1971, the agreements had not been ratified.]
