[As of December 1, 1970, fifty-eight governments had recognized the People's Republic of China. The following countries had established diplomatic relations: Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Bulgaria, Burma, Cambodia (P.R.C. representatives were withdrawn from Cambodia in March1970), Canada, Ceylon, Congo (Brazzaville), Cuba, Czechoslovakia, Denmark, Equatorial Guinea, Ethiopia, Finland, France, Germany (DemocraticRepublic of), Guinea, Hungary, India, Iraq, Italy, Kenya, Korea (Democratic People's Republic of), Laos, Mali, Mauritania, Mongolia, Morocco,Nepal, Netherlands, Norway, Pakistan, Poland, Rumania, Somalia, Southern Yemen, Sudan, Sweden, Switzerland, Syria, Tanzania, Uganda,United Arab Republic, United Kingdom, Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, Vietnam (Democratic People's Republic of), Yemen, Yugoslavia, and Zambia. Burundi, Ghana, Indonesia, Israel, Mauritius, Nigeria, Senegal, and Tunisia had recognized the People's Republic of China, but not established diplomatic relations. Of all the countries mentioned above, only Nigeria and Senegal recognize both Chinas.]
