These impressive companion volumes developed out of a conference organized by the editors at the University of Warwick in 1997. Drawing upon the expertise provided by distinguished contributors from industrial journalism and across the social sciences, the books comprise twenty-two essays which cover a wide range and depth of topics concerning trade unionism, workplace and “official” trade union politics in Britain between the end of World War Two, and the advent of Margaret Thatcher to power in 1979.
