Chemical basis of TVu 946 stem resistance to Maruca testulalis (Geyer)

Abstract

Ethylacetate-soluble fraction of methanol extract of the stems of two cowpea cultivars TVu 946 and Vita 1 were examined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) and tested for antifeedant properties for larvae of Maruca testulalis by applying the extract on the leaf discs from the susceptible cowpea variety Vita 1. Extracts derived from TVu 946 showed significantly greater feeding inhibition than extracts from Vita 1 in all the tests. HPLC analysis gave different elution profiles for the two extracts. Together, these observations implicate allelochemical factors in general, and feeding deterrents in particular, as a basis of TVu 946 stem resistance to Maruca.

Résumé

Une petite portion d'ethylacetate soluble de methanol extrait des deux tiges des vertes feuilles de pois cultivars TVu 946 et Vita 1 sont experimentés par la plus haute execution de liquide Chromatographie (HPLC) et sont essayés pour les qualités non-nourrissantes par utilisant larvaire Maruca testulalis sur les dises des vertes feuilles de pois susceptible pour le Vita 1. Les resumés derivés de TVu 946 sont montré significativement que la larve n'a pas mangé les extraits de Vita 1 dans touts les essais. L'analyse chimique de HPLC a donné les profils differents qui sont restés intangibles dans les deux extraits. Ensemble, cettes observations ont impliqué qu'il y a en général, les facteurs allelochemicaux, qui en particulièrement prohibitent la larve à manger les feuilles, comme une base de resistance de tige de TVu 946 à Maruca.
