Biology and genetics of orange mutant of the cotton stainer, Dysdercus koenigii

Abstract

The occurrence of an orange body coloured mutant, governed by a single somatic recessive gene of the cotton stainer, Dysdercus koenigii is reported. Both the strains did not show any quantitative difference in growth, development and reproductive biology. Males of the orange mutant lacked any special preference for females of orange mutant. Inheritance of the orange mutant in mixed population showed its relative stability at about 21% from F2 to F8 generations. The utility of the orange mutant for studies on population genetics and dynamics of the cotton stainer is discussed.

Résumé

L'occurrence d'un mutant de couleur orange de teinturier de coton governé par une seule somatique gène recessif est rapporté. Les deux souches entre eux n'ont pas démontré une difference quantitative dans le croissance, développment est en reproduction biologique. Les males de mutant orange avait manqué le preference special vers le mutant orange des fémales. L'inheritance de la mutant orange dans une population mélangé a revelé son stabilité relative a une taux de 21% approx. des generations de F2 á F8. L'utilité de la mutant orange pour etudier les genetiques de population et le dynamiques de teinturier de coton est discuté.
