A Revision of the Forcipomyia squamitibia Group in the Neotropics with the Description of Three New Species (Diptera: Ceratopogonidae)

Abstract

—A revision of the Neotropical species of the Forcipomyia squamitibia group, revealed three new species, F. (F.) catarinensis from southern Brazil, Colombia and Costa Rica, F. (F.) quechua from northwestern Argentina and F. (F.) rioplatensis from northeastern Argentina and northwestern Uruguay, which are described and illustrated. Forcipomyia (F.) squamitibia Lutz is redescribed from the original type material, a lectotype is designated, and F. (F.) soriai Wirth is recognised as a junior synonym. The remaining known species of this group are diagnosed, and keys to males and females are provided for the identification of the nine recognised species.

Résumé

—Trois nouvelles espèces du groupe Forcipomyia squamitibia, F. (F.) catarinensis n. sp. du sud du Brésil, Colombie et Costa-Rica, F. (F.) quechua n. sp. du nord-ouest de l'Argentine et F. (F.) rioplatensis n. sp. du nord-ouest de l'Argentine et nord-ouest de l'Uruguay sont décrites et dessinées. On redécrit Forcipomyia (F.) squamitibia Lutz, avec le materiel type, on designe le lectotype et on propose F. (F.) soriai Wirth comme un nouveau synonyme de F. (F.) squamitibia. On diagnostique les autres espèces du groupe connues et on donne une clé pour identifier les males et les femelles des neuf espèces reconnues du groupe squamitibia.
