We present photometric and spectroscopic observations (intermediate dispersion in the wavelength range 3700-10900 Å) of the recently discovered variable HM Sagittae (Dokuchaeva, 1976). Also pre-outburst data, indicating a red star, are used to discuss its nature and distance.
