Call for Papers: APA Newsletter on Feminism and Philosophy—Generations of Feminisms. As the first generation of Second Wave feminists nears retirement, we find shifts in the meaning of feminism, as well as changes in feminist theory and practice and increasing emphasis upon the diversity of feminisms. We invite reflections upon the succession of feminist approaches to philosophy. Essays should be no longer than ten pages, double spaced and prepared according to APA guidelines. Four copies should be submitted with the author's name on the title page only. The deadline for submission is June 1, 1995. Send papers to: Hilde Hein, Department of Philosophy, Holy Cross College, Worcester, MA 01610.

Call for Papers: Re-reading the Canon: Feminist Interpretations of Kierkegaard. Papers are sought for a volume covering a wide range of feminist approaches to Kierkegarrd's writings. Papers addressing the following works would be especially welcome: The Concept of Irony, Either/Or, Repetition, Two Ages, Works of Love, and The Concept of Anxiety. Questions that might be addressed include: Are Kierkegaard's socially inherited prejudices concerning women independent from this philosophical framework? How do gender categories function in Kierkegaard's thought? How does Hierkegaard understand the relation between the sexes? What is Kierkegaard's position on the emancipation of women, sexual difference, and sexual equality? Does Kierkegaard have anything to offer to feminist thought? Deadline for submission of completed manuscripts is June 1, 1995. Send two copies, one to Céline T. Léon, Modern Languages and Humanities, 100 Campus Drive, Grove City College, Grove City, PA 16127–2104, FAX 412–458–2181, and one to Sylvia Walsh, Department of Philosophy, Campus Box 8250, Stetson University, DeLand, FL 32720–3756, FAX 904–822–8832.

Welfare is a Feminist Issue: New York-based Welfare Reform Network is attempting to put a face on the welfare debate by collecting “recipient resumes.” We need to let the nation understand that many AFDC recipients have worked, want to work hard, and need welfare benefits to move out of poverty. Among our own ranks, academics, administrators, graduate and undergraduate students, there are many who have had to rely on this safety net. If you have ever “been on welfare” or know students or colleagues who have, now is the time to urge all to come out of the closet. Ellen Levine of the WRN Federal Welfare Reform Task Force has developed a survey form. Please call her at 1–212–213–0755 or Guida West at 1–212–777–4800.

Call for Papers: At the Crossroads, a feminist magazine, is looking for articles, essays, book reviews, first person accounts, theory, research, poetry, and artwork. Writings should be on the general subject matter of the magazine: the exploration of reality, especially spiritual reality using the perspectives and tools of feminism, spirituality and new paradigm science. Forum topics for the next several issues include:

Issue 7: How can feminists and feminist publications dismantle the “star expert” systems and create a truly grassroots movement that encourages all women to speak and be heard?

Issue 8: Are feminist therapy and/or 12 step groups weakening feminism and feminist communities by individualizing and depoliticizing feminism or are feminist therapy and/or 12 step groups strengthening feminism by strengthening us as individuals and providing useful frameworks for understanding feminist issues?

Issue 9: Does spiritual knowledge make people “saintly” (unusually benevolent, compassionate and/or psychologically healthy) or are people with spiritual knowledge as likely as anyone else to act as patriarchal oppressors (dominating, arrogant, sexist, racist, self-centered, mean, and/or violent)?

Issue 10: Is the feminist movement (including feminist thought, feminist community and the individual feminist who make up the movement) changing for the better or is the movement becoming less strong and/or less radical due to social forces such as the backlash against feminism and the increasing power of the religious right and right wing conservatives?

Forum contributions should be 500–1500 words in length; other contributions can be as long as 4000 words. For more information send a self addressed stamped envelope. Sample copies are available for $6.50, 4 issue subscriptions are $24 inside U.S. and $36 outside U.S. At the Crossroads, P.O. Box 112, St. Paul, AR 72760.
