1 Hegel, G. W. F., Lectures on the History of Philosophy, trans. Haldane, E. S. and Simson, F. H., 3 volumes (1892; reprinted Bison Book Edition, Lincoln and London: University of Nebraska Press, 1995) [hereafter HLP]Google Scholar. These lectures were first published in 1833–36 in volumes 13-15 of the first edition of Hegel's Werke, edited by Hegel's former student, Karl-Ludwig Michelet Michelet's source material consisted of Hegel's notebooks from his Jena lectures (1805–06), which formed the basis of all his later lecture courses on the history of philosophy, a sketchy fragment written by Hegel on the history of philosophy written for lectures given in Heidelberg (1816–17), Hegel's introduction to his Berlin lectures (1820), and several sets of student lecture notes (now mostly lost). A shortened edition of the Werke was issued in 1840–44 and Haldane's translation is taken from this shortened second edition. A new edition of the lectures has been published by Walter Jaeschke and Pierre Garniron using manuscripts from different years and attempting to sort out interpolations: see Hegel, , Vorlesungen: Ausgewählte Nachschriften und Manuskripte, Vols. 6–9, Vorlesungen über die Geschichte der Philosophie, ed.
