One of the difficulties facing the teacher of Classics is that of trying to keep abreast of the growing spate of new information. The same problem exists for teachers of other subjects, but in scientific fields it is possible, though arduous, to keep in touch through the several excellent periodicals like Discovery.For the classical scholar there are few such aids apart from the yearly summary in The Journal of Roman Studies, and one can easily refuse to acknowledge any advance at all and rely on texts and commentaries absorbed in one's own school and undergraduate days.
