P-49 - the Intelligence of Feeling in Relation to Therapeutic Work in Drug Rehabilitation
Published online by Cambridge University Press: 15 April 2020
Abstract
A significant inadequacy that people are usually confronted with in the drug addiction treatment process is the difficulty to be in touch with their feeling and express their emotions. The land of emotions is for them like a “terra incognita”, whereas ath same time their logic does not work efficiently because their minds are dominated by the obsession to drugs. The desires have been a neglected issue for them because of the continuous craving for the substance. Thus, they are usually confused with the difference between emotions and feelings and, in effect, act trough idealization.
“Thiseas” constitutes a drug treatment center trying to draw on art therapies in order to reveal the emotions whilst building their new identity.
Additionally, emphasizing to the role of psycho-educational interventions like visiting museums, galeries and theatrical plays, the center aims to motivate these people to get involved into the experience (sensitive and cognitive) stemming from art.
This presentation aims to contribute with specific paradigms to the fact that art is a global language, which has the power to touch and affect not only our psychi but also our mind. We accomplish the personal development of the clients by expanding their artistic understanding and creativity.
