Coerción y restricciones en el tratamiento hospitalario psiquiátrico

Resumen

El propósito de este estudio es averiguar hasta qué punto se utilizan la coerción y las restricciones en el tratamiento hospitalario psiquiátrico y con qué características del paciente se asocia el uso de la coerción. Con este fin, se valoraron mediante revisión retrospectiva de gráficos los registros hospitalarios de 1.543 admisiones (muestras de admisión de seis meses) en las clínicas psiquiátricas en tres ciudades universitarias finlandesas. Las clínicas estudiadas proporcionan todo el tratamiento hospitalario psiquiátrico para la población en edad laboral en sus áreas de captación. El uso de la coerción y las restricciones se registró en una forma estructurada. Se aplicó coerción y restricciones al 32% de los pacientes. Se utilizaron restricciones mecánicas en el 10% de los pacientes, y medicación forzada en el 8%. Comparado con las estadísticas internacionales, las cifras en el estudio actual son altas.
