Call for papers for EuConst Symposium for Young Scholars
20 Feb 2024 to 02 Apr 2024
Symposium to be held on 18 June 2024 in Maastricht
Application deadline: 2 April 2024

The editors of the European Constitutional Law Review invite applications for the 2024 EuConst symposium for young scholars. EuConst is a peer-reviewed English-language journal published by Cambridge University Press that seeks to advance the study of European constitutional law, its history and its evolution. Its four issues per year contain articles on doctrine, theory and practice, plus case notes and review essays.

Aim
Each year EuConst organises a symposium for young scholars, where selected participants present their research. The aim of the symposium is to offer participants a stimulating intellectual exchange, provide detailed feedback on participants’ work by EuConst editorial board members, as well as to build an intellectual network of talented and more established scholars in the field of European constitutional law.

We invite participants to apply with a draft paper that falls within the remit of the journal. We welcome papers that deal with EU constitutional law, fundamental rights law, comparative constitutional law, national constitutional law that has importance beyond the country studied, as well as papers with a theoretical focus.

What we offer

  • Extensive feedback on your paper by the editorial board members of EuConst and other scholars present.
  • An intellectually stimulating exchange.
  • Reimbursement of travel and accommodation costs.
  • The chance to connect with emerging and more established scholars in the field of European constitutional law.

What we expect
Applicants are requested to submit:

  • A draft paper of between 3000 and 5000 words, in which they develop the core of their analysis.
  • An abstract of 300 words.
  • CV (max 1 page).

If selected, participants will be asked to submit a full paper for the symposium of 10,000 words maximum.

Deadlines
The application deadline is 2 April 2024. Applications should be sent to [email protected] (subject: EuConst 2024 symposium). Decisions on accepted papers will be communicated by 15 April 2024. Authors whose proposals are accepted will be expected to submit full papers by 31 May 2024.

Publication
There is no publication requirement, but the board of editors will be happy to consider accepted papers for publication in EuConst, subject to the usual double-blind peer review process. The symposium aims to help participants publish their work.
