The function of the Vi antigen of Salmonella paratyphi A. Comparison between virulence, agglutinability by anti-O immune sera and sensitivity to the bactericidal action in vitro

Extract
Experiments were performed which show that virulent strains of Salmonella paratyphi A contain an additional antigen which has all the properties of a Vi antigen.
The anti-Vi immune serum combined in suitable proportions with an anti-0 immune serum exerted maximal bactericidal effect on virulent strains.
