In the above-mentioned article [Reference Spedicato, Carmine, Bellacicco, Marruchella, Marini, Pisciella, Di Francesco, Lorusso, Monaco and Savini1] there were two errors.

In the ‘Histology and IHC’ section the text citation of Figure 1a, b should be moved from the second paragraph to the first paragraph, so that the first two paragraphs of the section now read:

Histology and IHC

Multiple foci of interstitial hepatitis and nephritis were observed in WNV-infected (24/24) and healthy control (3/3) pigeons (Fig. 1a, b). Inflammatory infiltrates consisted of lymphocytes and plasma cells, which sometimes appeared as follicle-like structures. Hepatic granulomas, with a necrotic core surrounded by multinucleated giant cells, were also occasionally seen.

Splenic lympho-follicular hyperplasia was observed in WNV-infected (18/24) and healthy control (1/3) pigeons. Small foci of myocarditis (Fig. 2), mainly characterized by lymphocytes infiltrating the interstitial connective tissue, were detected in 4/24 WNV-infected animals (one in group A and three in group C). Very mild meningitis was detected in 1/24 WNV-infected pigeons and 1/3 controls. All tissues from infected and control animals were negative by IHC.

The legend for Figure 1 is incorrect. The correct version is given below:

Fig. 1. Interstitial hepatitis (a) and nephritis (b) were observed in WNV-infected (24/24) and healthy control (3/3) pigeons.
