2. Although the book is clearly intended to be encyclopedic, no mention is made of the extremely important Early Pleistocene sit e of Xihoudu, Shanxi nor of the abundant Upper Palaeolithic microlithic remains discovered at Xiachuan, also in Shanxi.
3. The complete, though crushed, Ramapithecus cranium discovered in 1978 at Lufeng, Yunnan, is not illustrated, nor are any of the equally important Sivapithecus remains from that locality.
