In this paper we examine the Iwasawa theory of modular elliptic curves E defined over Q without semi-stable reduction at p. By constructing p-adic L-functions at primes of additive reduction, we formulate a “Main Conjecture” linking this L-function with a certain Selmer group for E over the Zp-extension. Thus the leading term is expressible in terms of III$_E$, E(Q)$_tors$ and a p-adic regulator term.

In this paper, we develop a method of localization in equivariant cohomology based on the notion of partition of unity cohomology. We apply this method in two cases. In the first case, this method gives a refinement of the localization of Atiyah–Bott and Berline–Vergne (in the frame given by Bismut). After, we consider the Hamiltonian action of a torus, and we realise, following the idea of Witten, the localization on the critical points of the square of the moment map.

We construct the quantized enveloping algebra of any simple Lie algebra of type $\mathbb{A}\mathbb{D}\mathbb{E}$ as the quotient of a Grothendieck ring arising from certain cyclic quiver varieties. In particular, the dual canonical basis of a one-half quantum group with respect to Lusztig’s bilinear form is contained in the natural basis of the Grothendieck ring up to rescaling. This paper expands the categorification established by Hernandez and Leclerc to the whole quantum groups. It can be viewed as a geometric counterpart of Bridgeland’s recent work for type $\mathbb{A}\mathbb{D}\mathbb{E}$.

We give a local normal form for Dirac structures. As a consequence, we show that the dimensions of the pre-symplectic leaves of a Dirac manifold have the same parity. We also show that, given a point m of a Dirac manifold M, there is a well-defined transverse Poisson structure to the pre-symplectic leaf P through m. Finally, we describe the neighborhood of a pre-symplectic leaf in terms of geometric data. This description agrees with that given by Vorobjev for the Poisson case.

An important result of Arkhipov–Bezrukavnikov–Ginzburg relates constructible sheaves on the affine Grassmannian to coherent sheaves on the dual Springer resolution. In this paper, we prove a positive-characteristic analogue of this statement, using the framework of ‘mixed modular sheaves’ recently developed by the first author and Riche. As an application, we deduce a relationship between parity sheaves on the affine Grassmannian and Bezrukavnikov’s ‘exotic t-structure’ on the Springer resolution.

We classify the nilpotent orbits in a simple Lie algebra for which the restriction of the adjoint quotient map to a Slodowy slice is the universal Poisson deformation of its central fibre. This generalises work of Brieskorn and Slodowy on subregular orbits. In particular, we find in this way new singular symplectic hypersurfaces of dimension four and six.

An extension of a result of Sela shows that if Γ is a torsion-free word hyperbolic group, then the only homomorphisms Γ→Γ with finite-index image are the automorphisms. It follows from this result and properties of quasiregular mappings, that if M is a closed Riemannian n-manifold with negative sectional curvature (), then every quasiregular mapping f:M→M is a homeomorphism. In the constant-curvature case the dimension restriction is not necessary and Mostow rigidity implies that f is homotopic to an isometry. This is to be contrasted with the fact that every such manifold admits a non-homeomorphic light open self-mapping. We present similar results for more general quotients of hyperbolic space and quasiregular mappings between them. For instance, we establish that besides covering projections there are no π1-injective proper quasiregular mappings f:M→N between hyperbolic 3-manifolds M and N with non-elementary fundamental group.

Nous montrons, pour une grande famille de propriétés des espaces homogènes, qu’une telle propriété vaut pour tout espace homogène d’un groupe linéaire connexe dès qu’elle vaut pour les espaces homogènes de $\text{SL}_{n}$ à stabilisateur fini. Nous réduisons notamment à ce cas particulier la vérification d’une importante conjecture de Colliot-Thélène sur l’obstruction de Brauer–Manin au principe de Hasse et à l’approximation faible. Des travaux récents de Harpaz et Wittenberg montrent que le résultat principal s’applique également à la conjecture analogue (dite conjecture (E)) pour les zéro-cycles.

In this paper, we introduce cell-forms on 𝔐0,n, which are top-dimensional differential forms diverging along the boundary of exactly one cell (connected component) of the real moduli space 𝔐0,n(ℝ). We show that the cell-forms generate the top-dimensional cohomology group of 𝔐0,n, so that there is a natural duality between cells and cell-forms. In the heart of the paper, we determine an explicit basis for the subspace of differential forms which converge along a given cell X. The elements of this basis are called insertion forms; their integrals over X are real numbers, called cell-zeta values, which generate a ℚ-algebra called the cell-zeta algebra. By a result of F. Brown, the cell-zeta algebra is equal to the algebra of multizeta values. The cell-zeta values satisfy a family of simple quadratic relations coming from the geometry of moduli spaces, which leads to a natural definition of a formal version of the cell-zeta algebra, conjecturally isomorphic to the formal multizeta algebra defined by the much-studied double shuffle relations.

Let $F$ be a non-archimedean local field of residual characteristic $p \neq 2$. Let $G$ be a (connected) reductive group over $F$ that splits over a tamely ramified field extension of $F$. We revisit Yu's construction of smooth complex representations of $G(F)$ from a slightly different perspective and provide a proof that the resulting representations are supercuspidal. We also provide a counterexample to Proposition 14.1 and Theorem 14.2 in Yu [Construction of tame supercuspidal representations, J. Amer. Math. Soc. 14 (2001), 579–622], whose proofs relied on a typo in a reference.

We construct motivic invariants of a subvariety of an algebraic torus from its tropicalization and initial degenerations. More specifically, we introduce an invariant of a compactification of such a variety called the ‘tropical motivic nearby fiber’. This invariant specializes in the schön case to the Hodge–Deligne polynomial of the limit mixed Hodge structure of a corresponding degeneration. We give purely combinatorial expressions for this Hodge–Deligne polynomial in the cases of schön hypersurfaces and matroidal tropical varieties. We also deduce a formula for the Euler characteristic of a general fiber of the degeneration.

We show how the techniques of Voevodsky’s proof of the Milnor conjecture and the Voevodsky–Rost proof of its generalization the Bloch–Kato conjecture can be used to study counterexamples to the classical Lüroth problem. By generalizing a method due to Peyre, we produce for any prime number $\ell $ and any integer $n\geq 2$, a rationally connected, non-rational variety for which non-rationality is detected by a non-trivial degree $n$ unramified étale cohomology class with $\ell $-torsion coefficients. When $\ell = 2$, the varieties that are constructed are furthermore unirational and non-rationality cannot be detected by a torsion unramified étale cohomology class of lower degree.

We prove two results about vector bundles on singular algebraic surfaces. First, on proper surfaces there are vector bundles of rank two with arbitrarily large second Chern number and fixed determinant. Second, on separated normal surfaces any coherent sheaf is the quotient of a vector bundle. As a consequence, for such surfaces the Quillen K-theory of vector bundles coincides with the Waldhausen K-theory of perfect complexes. Examples show that, on non-separated schemes, usually many coherent sheaves are not quotients of vector bundles.

The classical Schubert cells on a flag manifold $G/P$ give a cell decomposition for $G/P$ whose Kronecker duals (known as Schubert classes) form an additive base for the integral cohomology $H^{\ast}(G/P)$. We present a formula that expresses Steenrod mod-$p$ operations on Schubert classes in $G/P$ in terms of Cartan numbers of $G$.

given a family x/b of nodal curves we construct canonically and compatibly with base-change, via an explicit blow-up of the cartesian product xr/b, a family wr(x/b) that we show is isomorphic to the relative flag hilbert scheme parametrizing flags of subschemes of fibres of x/b with colengths $1,\dotsc,r$. although wr(x/b) is singular, the important sheaves on it are locally free, which allows us to study some intersection theory on it and deduce enumerative applications, including some relative multiple point formulae enumerating the length-r schemes contained simultaneously in some fibre of x/b and some fibre of a given map from x to a smooth variety.

We use the theory of finite W-algebras associated to nilpotent orbits in the Lie algebra to give another proof of Mœglin’s theorem about completely prime primitive ideals in the enveloping algebra U(𝔤). We also make some new observations about Joseph’s Goldie rank polynomials in Cartan type A.

The Hanna Neumann conjecture is a statement about the rank of the intersection of two finitely generated subgroups of a free group. The conjecture was posed by Hanna Neumann in 1957. In 2011, a strengthened version of the conjecture was proved independently by Joel Friedman and by Igor Mineyev. In this paper we show that the strengthened Hanna Neumann conjecture holds not only in free groups but also in non-solvable surface groups. In addition, we show that a retract in a free group and in a surface group is inert. This implies the Dicks–Ventura inertia conjecture for free and surface groups.

Gel’fand, Kapranov and Zelevinsky proved, using the theory of perverse sheaves, that in the Cohen–Macaulay case an A-hypergeometric system is irreducible if its parameter vector is non-resonant. In this paper we prove, using the theory of the ring of differential operators on an affine toric variety, that in general an A-hypergeometric system is irreducible if and only if its parameter vector is non-resonant. In the course of the proof, we determine the irreducible quotients of an A-hypergeometric system.

For any given collection of isolated topological or analytic singularity types, we show the number of curves in the linear system $|L|$ with prescribed singularities is a universal polynomial of Chern numbers of $L$ and $S$, assuming $L$ is sufficiently ample. More generally, we show for vector bundles of any rank and smooth varieties of any dimension, similar universal polynomials also exist and equal the number of singular subvarieties cutting out by sections of the vector bundle. This work is a generalization of Göttsche’s conjecture.

This paper is devoted to the calculation of the B-model chiral ring, used in physics, for semiample Calabi–Yau hypersurfaces. We also study the cohomology of semiample hypersurfaces.
