^{page 6 page 1} In the second edition he abandoned this in favour of Hirschig's δ⋯δοκται λοιδορεῖσθαι on the ground that, on the analogy of Ran. 857 (ἔλεγχ' ⋯λ⋯γχου) and ib. 861 (δ⋯κνειν δ⋯κνεσθαι), the active infinitive should precede the passive. Hirschig's suggestion is mentioned (in a note) in the first edition with the admirable comment, ‘sed δ⋯ρεσθαι κα⋯ δ⋯ρειν quin sincera sit lectio non videtur dubiuru’.
