1 Such a decree is that which Mr. Granger quotes from Cicero in his third paragraph. His inference from it does not seem to melegitimate: Cicero closely connects it with the law affecting the whole space within the pomoerium. ‘Sed in urbe sepeliri lex vetat. Sic decretum a Pontiflcum collegio non esse jus in loco publico fieri sepulcrum.’ Cf. Marquardt, Staatsverwattung iii. 309, and Bouché-Leclercq, Les Pontifes, p, 149.
