page 140 note 1 Dorville (cf. Thes. s.v. διχθάς) thought of an “agger”, a “sulcus” dug into the sand and parallel to the coast-line, in order to protect the boat from the waves but, as he himself had to admit, the context (Hes. Op. 634 ff.) shows that no such “sulcus” was dug, the boat being protected by a wall of stones.
