page 19 note 1 V continually omits que, e.g. four times in Bk. I. Missa in diem is of course equivalent to in lucem producta.

page 20 note 1 E.g. I. 59 cautis (Lochbach), 68 currus et quoscreditur (Baehrens), II. 111 his (Baehrens), 431 crescit (Hosius: how can transit be used of an island on which the heroes land?), 464 fletus (reading of S), III. 193 hinc (Langen), 223 aestus, animos, actus, flatus (various scholars), 273 transposition of the line to follow 310 (Hartel), 513 pulso (Columbus), 540 moueret (Pius).

page 20 note 2 I cannot however accept his reconstruction of the line: ‘ dat dextram blandisque pauens Venus oscula miscet (adloquiis)’; all that K. urges on behalf of pauens on p. lxvi is useless: Venus is not afraid until 1. 394 ‘ iamque tremens longe aequitur Venus.’

page 21 note 1 K. attacks the line on its merits, but I do not find the collocatio particularly dura, and decidedly think the language more forcible than that of the line he himself has composed in its stead.
