1 Since writing this review, I have learned from Professor J. T. Kakridis's Ομηρικες Ερευνες (Athens, 1944—revised edition in English now in preparation) that more can reasonably be said about the Meleagris than I had supposed; but Kakridis's conclusions differ so materially from Howald's that I see no reason to change the judgement stated above.
