2 After all the Scholiast may have misled us. Perhaps does not apply to the town of Methone itself, but to its fortress, which was ungarrisoned; so that Methone () is distinguished from the fortress of Methone (. Cf. iii. 34 of Notium). This gives a better meaning to below.
