Classical Review is pleased to welcome a new Commissioning Editor, Blanka Misic, to its editorial team.
Blanka is a Marie Skłodowska-Curie (MSCA) Postdoctoral Fellow at Institut für Klassische Archäologie, Universität Wien, where she is currently conducting the interdisciplinary research project ‘Cognitive Aspects of Mithraic Rituals in Pannonia’ (CAMRIP). Blanka is also a Network Associate at the Vienna Cognitive Science Hub and the Vice-Chair of Theoretical Roman Archaeology Conference (TRAC). She served previously on the editorial board of the Theoretical Roman Archaeology Journal (TRAJ).
Blanka’s research focuses on sensory and cognitive aspects of religious and ritual practices in the provinces of the Roman Empire, merging the disciplines of Latin epigraphy, Roman provincial archaeology, and Roman religion with sensory studies, cognitive science of religion, and cognitive historiography. Blanka has previously published on material aspects of Roman religion, the cult of Mithras, and on votive and funerary inscriptions from Roman Pannoniae. Her most recent volume, Senses, Cognition, and Ritual Experience in the Roman World (co-edited with Abigail Graham) was published by CUP in early 2024. ‘As an interdisciplinary scholar, I find great fulfillment in liaising with colleagues across Classics, Ancient History, and Archaeology and in contributing to the evolution of research’, says Blanka. ‘CR is an invaluable resource as it helps us keep a finger on the pulse of our discipline – keeping track of emerging sub-fields and new discoveries. I am proud to join the editorial team at Classical Review and look forward to guiding scholars in the reviewing process.’
