Readers will notice a number of changes in the next issue of Central European History, which will appear in March 2015. The most obvious ones will be a new cover, as well as a slightly larger format. Each issue will contain a Letter from the Editor that gives a brief overview of the issue, focusing in particular on the main themes, arguments, and historiographical significance of the articles in that issue. We will also begin to publish abstracts online and in print in both English and German. Finally, Nikolaus Wachsmann, who teaches modern German history at Birkbeck, University of London, will be joining the Board of Editors.
As part of the editorial transition, we have also decided to adopt ScholarOne, an online submission and review system that will, we hope, make for a smoother and more efficient turn-around and vetting process.
A word of gratitude to the staff at Cambridge University Press: Julia Chang, our talented new production editor; Barbara Bigelow, our intrepid new copyeditor; Susan Soule, who has helped with the design of the new cover and will continue to oversee all marketing issues; Daphne Carr, who worked hard to set up ScholarOne; and, last but not least, Pat McGinty, our new editor, whose tireless support and enthusiasm have helped make the transition a smooth and enjoyable one.
A final word of thanks, once again, to former editors Kenneth Ledford and Catherine Epstein. All of the articles and reviews in this issue, the last one, as well as the next–except for the two Memorials in honor of Jonathan Osmond and Hans-Ulrich Wehler–were submitted or commissioned, vetted and accepted, on their watch. By allowing us to focus primarily on the nitty-gritty of copyediting and correcting the proofs, this, too, has made the transition a good deal easier.
