Magnetic resonance imaging and transesophageal echocardiography—a comparative study in patients with congenital heart disease

Abstract

Transesophageal echocardiography and magnetic resonance imaging have proved useful as noninvasive imaging modalities in postoperative patients with congenital heart disease, or patients with suboptimal transthoracic echocardiograms. Each modality has specific advantages. When both are of equal efficacy, magnetic resonance imaging is recommended because it is less invasive and more comfortable for the patient.
