3 The only place in which the presence of Aboriginal peoples is implied in a footnote by Brendan Gleeson in his essay on the social space of disability in ‘colonial Melbourne’. The footnote clarifies Gleeson's definition. He states: “The white invasion of what is known as the State of Victoria began in a sustained fashion in 1835. The six and a half decades which separated this date from the creation of the Commonwealth of Australia in 1901 constitute the colonial period of Victora's history.” (108).
