A NEW SPECIES OF ERIOPHYOID MITE WITH EYE-LIKE STRUCTURES, AND REMARKS ON THE GENUS PHYTOPTUS (ACARI: PROSTIGMATA: PHYTOPTIDAE)1

Abstract

Adults of Phytoptus oculatus n. sp. are described. These are unusual among Eriophyoidea in possessing eye-like structures lateral to the prodorsal shield. Diagnoses for the genus Phytoptus and two provisional species groups within the genus are included.
