A NEW SPECIES OF COLIAS (LEPIDOPTERA: PIERIDAE) FROM ARCTIC CANADA

Abstract

A new species, Colias johanseni, is described. This species has male androconia similar to Colias meadii Edwards, 1871, and many palaearctic, neotropical, and ethiopian species, but the wing pattern is generally similar to that of Colias hecla Lefèbvre, 1836. Thus far, it has been found only on dry tundra at Bernard Harbour, N.W.T., Canada.

Résumé

On décrit une nouvelle espèce, Colias johanseni. Les dessins des ailes sont en gros similaire à celle de Colias hecla Lefèbvre, 1836, mais les androconies du mâle sont présentes et sont semblables à ceux de Colias meadii Edwards, 1871 et certaines espèces paléarctiques, néotropicales, et ethiopiennes. Jusqu’à présent, on l’a trouvé seulement sur la toundra sèche à Bernard Harbour, N.W.T., Canada.
