LABORATORY PROPAGATION OF THE PARASITE CHRYSOCHARIS LARICINELLAE (HYMENOPTERA: EULOPHIDAE) AND NOTES ON INTERACTION WITH ITS HOST, COLEOPHORA LARICELLA

Abstract

A method is described for mass-rearing Chrysocharis laricinellae (Ratzeburg) on larch casebearer larvae, employing a water culture system for tamarack. The rearing unit accommodates a well-defined episode (limited contact) in the interaction with its host. The yield is about 100 healthy parasites obtained from 300 cases, when the initial inoculum was 15 parasite females.

Description d’une méthode de production collective de Chrysocharis laricinellae (Ratzeburg) sur les chenilles du Porte-Case du Mélèze d’Amérique, au moyen d’un milieu de culture convenable. A une phase bien définie de leur impact, le parasite et son hôte sont placés dans une cage spécialement conçue pour l’expérience. Le rendement obtenu à partir d’un inoculum contenant 15 femelles de C. laricinellae est d’environ 100 parasites sains sur 300 Porte-Cases du Mélèze.
