INFLUENCE OF SITE AND FENITROTHION CONTAMINATION ON VERTICAL DISTRIBUTION OF DRIFT ARTHROPODS IN A WOODLAND STREAM

Abstract

Drift of aquatic arthropods was not uniformly distributed by depth in a stream and differed from one reach to another. Drift of terrestrial arthropods, although usually densest at or near the surface, was also substantial at depths. Nets for sampling of drift should extend to the bottom and include the surface.

Résumé

La distribution des arthropodes aquatiques en dérive dans un cours d'eau n'était pas uniforme sur le plan vertical et différait d'un tronçon à l'autre. La dérive des arthropodes terrestres, si elle était ordinairement plus dense à la surface ou à proximité, était également importante en profondeur. Les filets servant à l'échantillonnage des arthropodes en dérive devraient être tendus jusqu'au fond et inclure la surface.
