DIFFERENTIATION OF THE SPECIES OF UROLEPIS (HYMENOPTERA: CHALCIDOIDEA: PTEROMALIDAE), POTENTIAL BIOCONTROL AGENTS OF FILTH FLIES (DIPTERA: MUSCIDAE)

Abstract

The world species of Urolepis Walker are reviewed and a key is given to differentiate females of Urolepis singularis (Ashmead) and males and females of Urolepis maritima (Walker) and Urolepis rufipes (Ashmead). Lectotypes are designated for U. rufipes and U. singularis. Biological literature relating to parasitism of house flies and stable flies by U. maritima and U. rufipes is summarized, and known hosts of the three species and collection records within the Nearctic region are given. Urolepis maritima is recorded for the first time from the Nearctic region, and U. rufipes is confirmed from northern Europe (Denmark and Germany).

On trouvera ici une révision des espèces d’Urolepis Walker à l’échelle mondiale; une clé permettra de différencier les femelles d’Urolepis singularis (Ashmead) de même que les mâles et les femelles d’Urolepis maritima (Walker) et d’Urolepis rufipes (Ashmead). Des lectotypes d’U. rufipes et d’U. singularis ont été choisis. La littérature sur la biologie du parasitisme des Mouches domestiques et des Mouches des étables par U. maritima et U. rufipes est résumée. Les hôtes connus des trois espèces sont énumérés et les comptes-rendus de récolte dans la zone néarctique sont présentés. Urolepis maritima est signalé pour la première fois dans la zone néarctique et la présence d’U. rufipes dans le nord de l’Europe (Danemark et Allemagne) est confirmée.
