CERATOZETIDAE (ACARI: ORIBATEI) OF THE WESTERN NORTH AMERICAN SUBARCTIC

Abstract

Representatives of the oribatid mite family Ceratozetidae of subarctic western North America, including 14 species in eight genera, are treated. A new genus Laminizetes, and eight new species, Diapterobates siccatus, Trichoribates ogilviensis, Laminizetes fortispinosus, Ceratozetes inupiaq, C. kutchin, C. fjellbergi, Sphaerozetes firthensis, and Melanozetes tanana, are proposed, and Dentizetes rudentiger Hammer, Diapterobates humeralis (Hermann), Neogymnobates luteus (Hammer), Trichoribates striatus Hammer, Sphaerozetes castaneus Hammer, and Melanozetes meridianus Sellnick are redescribed. Immatures of Dentizetes rudentiger and Sphaerozetes firthensis are described. A key to the adults of the 31 species of Ceratozetidae recorded from the western North American arctic and subarctic is given. Relationships among the 12 genera in the Ceratozetidae recorded from the North American arctic and subarctic are discussed.

Résumé

Les représentants de la famille d’oribate Ceratozetidae, provenant des régions subarctiques de la partie ouest de l’Amérique du Nord, incluant 14 espèces dans huit genres, sont étudiés. Un nouveau genre Laminizetes, et huit nouvelles espèces, Diapterobates siccatus, Trichoribates ogilviensis, Laminizetes fortispinosus, Ceratozetes inupiaq, C. kutchin, C. fjellbergi, Sphaerozetes firthensis et Melanozetes tanana, ont été identifiées, et Dentizetes rudentiger Hammer, Diapterobates humeralis (Hermann), Neogymnobates luteus (Hammer), Trichoribates striatus Hammer, Sphaerozetes castaneus Hammer et Melanozetes meridianus Sellnick sont décrites à nouveau. Les formes juvéniles de Dentizetes rudentiger et Sphaerozetes firthensis sont décrites. L’ouvrage comprend une clé des 31 espèces de Ceratozetidae provenant des régions arctiques et subarctiques de l’Amérique du Nord. De plus, les relations entre les 12 genres de Ceratozetidae provenant de ces régions sont étudiées.
