Phytomyza petoei (Diptera: Agromyzidae), a leaf miner on cultivated mint, newly recorded in the Nearctic Region

Abstract

The Palaearctic species Phytomyza petoei Hering is newly recorded in the Nearctic Region. The specimens were reared from cultivated mint, Menthacf. × piperita L. (Lamiaceae), in eastern Canada. This is the first Nearctic record of a Phytomyza species feeding on mint.

Résumé

L’espèce Palaéarctique Phytomyza petoei Hering est nouvellement recensée dans la région Néarctique. Les spécimens recensés ont été élevés de feuilles de menthe cultivée, Menthacf. × piperita L. (Lamiaceae), dans l’est du Canada. Ceci représente la première mention dans la région Néarctique d’une espèce de Phytomyza se nourrissant de menthe.
