EFFECT OF GRANULAR AND FOLIAR INSECTICIDES ON CEREAL APHIDS (HEMIPTERA) AND THEIR NATURAL ENEMIES ON FIELD BARLEY IN SOUTHWESTERN QUEBEC1

Abstract

Granular treatments of thiofanox (Dacamox 10 G®) and carbofuran (Furadan 10 G®) and spray treatments of dimethoate (Cygon 4E®) and pirimicarb (Pirimor 50 WP®), all gave good control of cereal aphids and increased barley grain yield significantly above controls.

The granular treatments did not significantly reduce parasites and predators of the aphids. Predators and parasites showed a reduced population 1 week after foliar insecticide applications. However, pirimicarb showed a relatively reduced effect compared with other pesticides on the available predatory species, 2 weeks after spraying.

Résumé

Des applications de granulés de thiofanox (Dacamox 10 G®) et de carbofuran (Furadan 10 G®) et des pulbérisations au diméthoate (Cygon 4E®) et au pirimicarbe (Pirimor 50 WP®), ont tous donné une bonne répression des pucerons des céréales ce qui a augmenté de façon significative la production d’orge par rapport aux témoins.

Les insecticides granulés n’ont pas réduit de manière significative les parasites et prédateurs des pucerons. Il y a eu réduction des populations de prédateurs et parasites une semaine après application d’insecticide sur les feuilles. Toutefois, deux semaines après l’arrosage, le pirimicarbe avait un effet relativement moindre sur les prédateurs que les autres pesticides.
