page 217 note 1 This term ‘ 1221 seq.’ is used to cover the statutes following par. 34, namely par. 35–46. In most of the MSS. they are not distinguished from the preceding statutes of 1221, but, in fact, it seems that they are later, being drawn from the Chapters of 1250, 1256, and some other source: see below, p. 223.
page 220 note 1 I have to thank Dr. H. H. E. Craster for giving me information about the MS. and the chronicle.

page 244 note 3 This important MS. has been briefly analysed by Dr. H. H. E. Craster (English Historical Review, XL., Oct. 1925, p. 522): it is the original source of the earlier part of Robert of Graystanes' history of Durham. For the later thirteenth century it is full, and rich in documents: contrast the excerpt printed above, with the comparatively meagre précis in Graystanes (ed. Raine, J., Historiœ Dunelm. Scriptores Tres, Surtees Soc, 1839, p. 48)Google Scholar. Graystanes' dependence on this MS. had already been pointed out by his earliest editor, Henry Wharton (Anglia Sacra, I, xlix): but the later editor, James Raine, was too much occupied in criticizing Wharton's work to notice or follow up this important point.
