page 136 note * The abbey of St. James in Northampton was founded by William Peverel, the natural son of king William the Conqueror, for black monks. The abbot with eight monks had subscribed to the king's supremacy. Between 1532 and the dissolution of this house it had two abbots—John Dasset and William Brockden.
