a The ambassador's letter bears date 31 May, 1620, but Camden informs us that it was not until the 28th of that month that Spinola “set down with his army in the Palatinate, and had appointed that to be the seat of war.” The following memorandum is on the back of the document, “Md. 20 Coppies of the Emb. letter and the Lord Lieutenant's and of the Agreements.”
