page 72 note a The East India Company's ships had in 1622 taken Ormuz from the Portuguese for the Shah. The Portuguese were the subjects of the King of Spain, who had complained. (See Egerton MSS. 1131, fol. 169.) James however took no further notice of the Spanish complaint, except to use it to obtain money for Buckingham.
