^{page 193 note *} This MS., which Bedell brought from Venice, is now in the Library of Emmanuel College, but the other books here bequeathed are not, it would appear, known to exist there. They had been lost or destroyed in the Rebellion.

^{page 193 note †} This appears to be identical with the Psalter in the library of T. C. D. containing Ricemarch's verses at the end. I am favoured with the following notice on the subject by the Rev. Dr. Reeves of Tynan : the beautiful manuscript Psalter preserved in the library of T. C. D., under sig. A. 4,20 (among Ussher's MS. treasures), has the autograph “G. Bedellj.” This, the penmanship of which is in the Irish style, is Ricemarch's Psalter. Ussher, in his “Religion possessed by the ancient Irish ” (Works, vol. iv. p. 249), quotes from the Colophon verses; and in a note makes this reference: “MS. in bibliotheca eruditissimi antistitis D. Guilielmi Bedelli Kilmorensis et Ardaghensis apud nos Episcopi.” This treatise of Ussher, it is to be observed, wan first printed in 1631 when Bedell was Bishop of Kilmore and Ardagh. Again, in his “British Ecclesiastical Antiquities ” (Works, vol. v. p. 17), first printed in 1639, when Bedell was Bishop of Kilmore alone, Ussher writes: “In Britannieo vero quod describendum curavit Ricemarchus Sulgeni Menevensis Episcopi filius, &c.” and in a note to this adds: “Habetur MS. in Bibliotheca D. Guil. Bedelli Kilmorensis apud nos Episcopi.”

^{page 194 note *} In a letter to the Lord Deputy Wentworth (Strafford's Letters and Despatches, vol. ii. p. 151, folio, London, 1739), dated February 22,1637, Bishop Bedell refers to hia suit with Mrs. Moigne, concerning two unjust leases given to her by her late husband, his predecessor (see above, p. 155), and says, “I had devoted and dedicated all that I should recover herein to God, to be employed in the edition of the Irish Bible.”
