Page 17 note 1 Professor Mynors points out to me that Silius never uses Libye (nom.) or Libyes except metri gratia; on the other hand his use of Libyen is unaffected by metre; and that whereas Libya occurs (twice) late in the poem, all forms of Libye are confined to the first three books. He may then have used Libye in book 2 metro non cogente.
