1 Some idea of the nature of its criticism may be guessed by the quote appearing in Araya (the only portion of this work known to have been published) which reads ‘If I see something in good condition, I will get no rest unless I destroy it, no matter what. I will get no sleep. I cannot bear to see something prosper.’ The quoted passage begins a chapter relating Araya's frustrations in government service. In a personal communication, Professor Lanfranco Ricci informed me that he has come into possession of a manuscript of this work.
