page 124 note 1 Nicoll knew the title (Bayān) al-Jawāb al-ṣaḥīḥ, etc. only from Ḥājjī Khalifa; he noticed its similarity to the title as given in the Oxford MS and suggested that the two titles may refer to the same work. The note In the Leiden Catalogue by de Jong and de Goeje (IV, p. 251): ‘The Bodleian MS Nic. 45 contains another, but this time complete, copy of the same work [al-Jawāb al-ṣaḥiḥ]’ is erroneous and is possibly based on the remark of Nicoll just referred to.

page 124 note 2 Ibn Taymiyya‘s name is Abu'l-'Abbās Ahmad b. 'Abd al-Halīm … b. Muhammad; the form given in the title is erroneous.

page 125 note 1 I do not know why this curious form of the name (referring to Ibn Taymiyya's ancestor Muhammad ?) was chosen.

page 126 note 1 A book by Ibn Taymiyya bearing the title of Kitāb al-nubuwwāt has been published in Cairo in 1346, and registered by Brockelmann, , Supplement, II, 120, no. 3. (I am much obliged to Professor H. Laoust for lending me his copy.) This book, however, deals with the miracles of the Prophet from an inner Islamic dogmatic point of view, and polemizes against Muslims who hold opinions different from those of the author rather than against the Ahl al-Kitāb; and there is no connexion between it and the present MS.Google Scholar
