This little Sanskrit play belongs to the ancient repertory of Travancore. Having recently obtained from Pandit V. Venkaṭarāma Śarmā of Chenganur a Nāgarī transcript of one MS., which may be called A, and a collation of another MS., which I designate as B, I now publish the text in transliteration, with such corrections and emendations as seem to be necessary, but without attempting to enforce uniformity of spelling. I have added numbers to the verses.
page 33 note 1 It should be distinguished from the Valiya Tamburān's Malayalam-Sanskrit work of the same name (published in the Trivandrum collection of 1858 and again in the Tellicherry edition of M. Rāmuṇṇi Vāriyar in 1895), as well as from Viśvanātha's Sāugandhikâharaṇa (in Kāvyamālā, No. 74). Their common source is, of course, Mahābhārata, Vana-p°. cxlvi–clvi.
page 35 note 1 I am not, however, convinced that the Trivandrum Svapnavāsavadattam ia an adaptation of the original play of that name by Bhāsa. Mere coincidence of name in the case of works dealing with popular themes proves nothing: we know three Kumārasambhavas, besides the two Kalyāṇasāugandhikas and the Sāugandhikâharaṇa.
page 35 note 2 A omits all the words from Nāndyantē to the second Sūtradhāraḥ.
page 36 note 1 A° iyyammi.
page 36 note 2 Omitted in B; ayyamissāṇam A.
page 36 note 3 Kārtyāyanī° B, as in the Bālacarita and Subhadrādhanaṃjaya, etc.
page 36 note 4 Pandit Veṅkaṭarāma Ṡarmā has reported to me the reading (or emendation?) upasēvitavāggurur naḥ.
page 36 note 5 A° aṃa; the anusvāra or small circle on top is used to denote a doubling of the consonant (cf. Pischel, , Gramm, d. Pktspr., § 193Google Scholar, and Epigr. Ind., xvi, p. 346, n. 2Google Scholar), and hence is applied even to a, which in southern pronunciation often has a glide y prefixed to it. The same spelling is used in ayyamissāṇaṃ further on in the same sentence.
page 36 note 6 Omitted in B.
page 36 note 7 A° -dōṣāt.
page 36 note 8 A° datvā.
page 37 note 1 A omits all the words from Bhīma, two lines before, to Sūtradhāraḥ.
page 37 note 2 B atyukṣya.

page 40 note 2 A° ēvaṃ.
page 40 note 3 A° kṣaṇāt.
page 40 note 4 So A°, which represents the local pronunciation. Kirmīra is usual in the North; Kimmīra is the Tamil form.
page 40 note 5 So A°, apparently to be corrected to maṃ gaṇha i niṇā duvviṇīdēṇa, māru'a-hadaēṇa, paricīamāṇaṃ bhōiṇiṃ viä ṇāavēriṇā [i.e. bhōginīm iva nāgavāiriṇā] jāva ēsō ṇa maṃ mārēi. On the wind called parāvaha, see Mahābhār, ., Śānti-p°. cccxxviii, 48 ff.Google Scholar

page 42 note 3 A° -gaṇāiḥ.
page 42 note 4 B -sajaḷajaḷaharatthaṇida-.
page 42 note 5 So A°; mā for maṃ is contrary to the known rules (Pischel, , Gr. d. Pktspr., § 418Google Scholar), but until the laws of the Southern School of Prakrit are better known it seems hazardous to alter it.
page 42 note 6 A nikhātaṃ, … tō, with a query after the tō; B nikhātaṃ … tāu.
page 42 note 7 B -talam idam.
page 42 note 8 So A and B, a Vedic form (Skt. anayōr).

page 45 note 4 A and B in both cases āsva, which can be defended.

page 46 note 7 A° dhīraḥ.
page 46 note 8 This sentence seems to want a negative.
page 46 note 9 B prakṛtisthō.
page 46 note 10 So B; A nâtyāyatas, an error perhaps due to Dravidian pronunciation (cf. Tamil mādam = Skt. māsa, etc.).
page 46 note 11 A° vyatîtâmbudhiḥ.
page 47 note 1 After this sentence the text of B begins to expand so as to include a further episode. See Appendix.

page 47 note 4 So A and B.
page 47 note 5 B Ēvam ēva kariṣyē.
page 47 note 6 A nigghōṣṭha-, B nirgghōṣṭha-. The line seems to be a reminiscence of Mahābhār. Drōṇa-p., lxxvii, 4, śuṣkâśanyaś ca niṣṗētuḥ sanirghātāḥ, savidyutaḥ; then nirghuṣṭx will correspond to sanirghāta, though I can quote no authority for the compound verb except nirghōṣa (cf. Nalôp., xii, 3Google Scholar, parisaṃghuṣṭa).
page 47 note 7 A sannôjvalanaprakāśān, B sannôjvalanaprakāśam.

page 49 note 6 Apparently for aṇṇō mē maṇōrahō āsi.
page 49 note 7 Perhaps correct (Skt. satyakam): cf. Pischel, , Pkt., § 230Google Scholar. But more probably saccaṃ ṇaṃ or saccagaṃ.
