The starting-point of this book is the menace from the big city and its characteristics to the democratic and freedom-loving spirit. The problems are very clearly explained also for non-specialists, and the various possibilities for making a social whole and ethically and aesthetically an acceptable population centre also of the big city, are discussed. From a sociological point of view the big city will, with the disappearance of the capitalist formation of values, have to dissolve itself into a number of surveyable units, which will make a living democracy possible.
